Pokémon Sword & Shield Walkthrough

This summary of Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield will show you how to play in the beginning. Which may not be detailed, describing every point, but enough to be able to be a guideline for friends not more or less. Read first

1. If you are curious about the differences between Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield, you can read this article first. Including new system information that friends will meet in Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield

2. The story of this game may not have much details, but when we finish the main story, there are quite a lot of things to do. The author will include it in a separate article. Once it’s finished, it will be updated for you to read.

3. For friends who just played, rexe(the author) does not recommend that IV or EV are serious enough to finish the main story. We can recheck it later.

4. In the Pokemon Sword&Shield, we can collect levels faster than previous series a lot, because when the fight is over, every Pokemon on the team will also gain a level. And there is the Max Riad Battle that can be played with friends or through the internet as well.

5. Some Pokémon from previous games will disappear, so if you don’t find some, don’t be surprised. There will be more to add in the future, but don’t know what form it will come.

Wedgehurst

The game opening cutscene will start with the Galar Regional Championship. After we finish the intro, it will skips to yourselves in Wedgehurst watching TV at home with your best friend Hop, who is Leon’s brother, the champion we just saw on TV, waiks up to you. When we control the character, go to the far right side of the house to your room. Then press to pick up the bag and go outside, we will find Hop waiting.

Follow Hop to his house, which is a large apartment. Go into the house and talk to Hop’s mother, we decide to meet with Lee. (Leon’s nickname) by walking out of the house and walking straight up to find Hop waiting. Follow straight through Route 1 to enter the city to find Leon showing himself to the townspeople. After meeting with Leon, we will return to the house. Leon gives us a Pokemon with Hops, which are available as follows. Scorbunny, Fire Pokémon, Sobble, Water Pokémon or Grookey, Grass Pokémon.

Once selected, Hop will pick a Pokemon after us. Which he will always choose the one that is weak to our elements. For example, if we choose the Fire element, he will choose Grass and so on. The other Pokemon will go with Leon. When we finished picking Pokemon and the mothers will come and tell us to go eat and rest. On the next day, Leon will lead us to fight Hop for the first time. He will have Wooloo and a selected Pokemon.

Once the battle is over, Hop and you will decide to go on a journey to challenge different gyms. After the conversation is over, walk out to meet with the event of Wooloo breaking the stall and escaping. Hop and you will have to go out and find it back. To walk out of the broken fence and follow the path to continue. During this time, there will also be a chance to encounter wild Pokemon. If our health is low, can go ask Hop to heal. Walk to the end of the way, we will meet a dog-like mysterious Pokemon. While fighting, the fog will thicken until we can’t see anything before that Pokemon disappears.

At the end of the fight, we’ll pass out and Leon joins in concern and he tells us that he has found the lost sheep. We’ll tell Leon about his strange encounter with a mysterious Pokemon before heading home, which Hop would excuse himself to tell his family that he is leaving for adventure.

Wedgehurst

After parting with Hop, walk into the house and meet your mother to tell her that you are leaving Wedgehurst on an adventure. After talking to Mom, you have to walk out of the house and follow the path until we find Hop. He will tell you to go to the Pokémon Research Lab. We cannot go directly, you have to walk around the sheep. In the meantime, maybe try catching Pokemon first. In which our bag initially contains five balls and can buy more later (You have to go through this part first.) After walking until you’re satisfied, go to the Pokemon Research Lab in town, where you’ll find Sonia, who will be Leon’s rival. She will give you the Pokedex and tell you that to find the professor.

Route 2

When you come out of the lab, go up to the top of town where Hop will be waiting for you. He will recommend Pokemon Center for us. After this, we can come to heal Pokemons and buy various items, with the items increasing as we play through each story phase. When you go out, follow the path to the top again, you will meet Hop to talk a little more. After finishing, walk out of the city and go through Route 2, which is a straight road, so you can walk straight ahead. When leaving the city, you will meet Leon, he will give you 20 Poke Balls. During this time, you can try to catch Pokemon around here before moving on.

After walking straight, you will meet other Pokemon trainers. Which after this we will have to meet again throughout the game. If you win, you will get both money and experience. But if you don’t want to fight, you can walk away from some trainer. At the end of the Route, you will find Professor Magnolia’s house. There will be a small talk before we fight Hop again (Leon will heal you first).
This time Hop comes with 3 Pokemon together: Wooloo/Main Pokémon/Rookidee

After the fight, Leon will receive the Letter of Endorsement item, which is a recommendation letter used to compete with the Gym Leaders. After talking with Leon and us, we will collect Wishing Star, which is an item that allows Pokemon to use Dynamax Form (Big Form). After talking, the Professor tells us to take a rest. And he has already made a tool to transform for you to use. And your next destination is to challenge different gyms.

Note :
After we play to the later part of the game that can run on water. On the left we can run up to a two small island to collect items, including the TM69 Psycho Cut and Choice Band.

Recommended Pokemon

During this period, there are 3 Pokemon that you can catch and use for a long game. Here are 3 of them. ( It’s just the author’s opinion.)

Rookidee – A small bird that, when evolved into its final form, is Flying and Steel. It can be used with variety of attack moves.

Chewtle – Water element turtle that if we don’t use Starter as Water, it can be used for a long time. Because it’s very tough, plus the skills are quite complete.

Magikarp – Another Pokemon that is worth looking for. We can go fishing next to the Professor’s house to find Magikarp or Koiking. Its second form was a very brutal Gyarados.

Train Station in Wedgehurst

Head back to Wedgehurst to reach the train station at the town. The station is located at the entrance to the town and can be seen from the Hop waiting in front. Let us get ready and walk into the station. will meet the mothers came to send us along with the Item Set of Camping Gear, which allows us to set up a tent in the Wild Area. After we ride the train for a while, the train will stop at the station at the Wild Area. Once you get out of the train, talk to the person at the exit to get a Poke Doll before walking away. In which we can also receive Pikachu and Eevee if the conditions are met.

How to get Pikachu and Eevee

You can get Pikachu and Eevee if you already have saves for both of these games. Just walk and talk to A young boy/girl at the train station in the Wild Area after we left Wedgehurst.

About Wild Area

Wild Area is initially an open area where we can meet other players. And there will be Max Raid Battle to fight and catch. If you win, Dynamax Pokémon will be able to farm a lot of stuff, whether it’s Exp, single-use skills, Berries, etc. Even more if there is. Playmates will have a lot of fun because they can get together with up to 4 people. The Max Raid are red and purple. which purple is better than normal. As for the number of stars of Pokemon, we will find more-stars Pokemon as we play clear Gyms at higher levels.

South Wild Area

After walking out of the train station, it will be a Wild Area, beware of large Pokemons walking because we can’t fight them yet. Let us try to find a way to reach Motostoke, during which time we may try to enter the Max Raid or try to find more Pokemon to catch first. If our Pokemon run out of HP or PP, you can come to heal at the NPC in front of the station. It is recommended that you try joining the Max Raid to collect Exp candy and leveling Pokemon to level 16 – 20. If we catch Pokemon until satisfied, you can walk to Motostoke City. Personally, I don’t recommend the Max Raid too much, because in the beginning, we can only unlock 1-star Pokemon, which if we play further through the story will give us a chance to find more star Max Raid pokemon.

Note:
In the Wild Area, we can explore to get TM84 Tail Slap, located in the Rolling Fields area, the TM81 Bulldoze in the Giant’s Seat, and the TM95 Air Slash in the Axew’s Eye. But the last one, you have to play further before being able to run on water.

Motostoke

When entering Motostoke, it will encounter a few incidents. After finishing, walk straight to the end of the city where there will be an elevator that will take us up to the top. By entering the building inside to register as a challenger with various gyms. In which we can choose the number we like to stick on the back of our shirt. After completing the registration, the staff will let us stay in the hotel to wait for the launch event the next day. Let us follow and go into the hotel.

When you enter the hotel, you will encounter a man in black who disturbs many people so they cannot stay. From talking, you will know that this group calls themselves Team Yell, go talk to them and answer the first option. We will fight against that grunts. This will take about 3 fights in total. After the end, Marnie will walk in and apologize on behalf of those who harassed you a few moments ago. She said they just wanted to support her. which she did not want to cause others trouble at all. When the conversation is over, let us talk to the receptionists to rest.

When you wake up, walk out and you’ll see an employee waiting for you. You can press “yes” to follow them. We have to go back to the stadium. After entering, talk to the staff in the lobby to change clothes and attended the opening ceremony of the competition.

After the ceremony is over, there will be a gift from the Chairman who left it for us. That’s the ability to Fly. From now on, we can click on the map and select the city that has been to it. It makes traveling much more convenient. After we done prepared, walk to the left hand side of the stadium, you will find Hop waiting to challenge us. Defeat him to go to Route 3.

– There is a TM02 Payday in the city, located at the bottom of the city, you have to go down the stairs. And in the shop there will also be TMs for sale (must play the long-term story first)

Details of various gym leaders

In some gyms we will face different Gym Leaders depending on the version we play. We can see the names of Gym Leaders and the Elements they can use in the table below.

Route 3

When the ceremony is over, come out and keep walking to the left, preparing to go to the next city. You will meet Sonia, who will have a small talk. After finishing, keep walking along the path to find a cave. Which in the front we can talk to the NPC to ask him to heal. It is suggested that during this part, if we don’t have Fire, Insect or Flying Pokémon yet, catch those Fire-type Pokémon to prepare to deal with the Gym Leader we are about to encounter. In this area, there will also be a Growlithe which is a Fire type Pokemon too.

– Near the berry tree, there will be a TM37 Beat Up to collect.

Galar Mine

In this cave, there are quite a lot of earth type Pokemon for us to catch. If you have time, you can stop by and catch them first. And inside the cave, if we walk carefully, we will find TM54 Rock Blast on the outside of the cave and TM26 Scary Face hidden in one of the rooms. After collecting the items until you are satisfied, you can walk through the cave. But before leaving, we will find Bede to block him and defeat him to go to the next city.

Tuffield

When you come out of the cave and walking continuously until you reach town, we meet the first gym leader Milo. After entering the city, follow Yamper to find Sonia who is waiting on the left hand side first. in which she will tell about her research. After the conversation is over, you will be able to challenge the Gym.

The Gym Challenge requires us to walk into the stadium and talk to the person at the counter inside to register and change clothes. The Gym Challenge in this game is like a game show where we have to do some missions before we can challenge the Gym Leader. As for the first gym, we’ll have to get all of the sheep inside so the door will open. If the sheep encounter a Yamper, they will escape and split the herd, so try not to herd the sheep into the dogs, it will make herding much easier.

When we have completed the mission, Milo is waiting for you, who is the boss of Grass Gym, the Pokemon he uses are as follows.

In the fight against Milo, if we have an Insect, Fire and Flying type Pokémon, it will be very easy to deal with him. Be careful, he will use Dynamax with Eldegoss. It is recommended that you use Dynamax to fight. After defeating Milo, you will receive TM10 Magical Leaf and a few loot.

Galar Meowth can be exchanged for normal Meowth with the Kid NPC near the Gym.

Route 5

After fighting with Milo, we walk out of the city on the right hand side, it connects to Route 5, when we walk to the bridge, we will meet Team Yell Grunts threatening to take the bike from a young man. In which he will ask us to help and will give us a bicycle in return.

– We can go into the Pokemon Nursery to deposit Pokemon.
– The NPC in Pokemon Nursery will have someone who gave us a Toxel.
– The TM31 Attract can be found by hiding around the corner. corner of the scene

After collecting and catching Pokemon in this area until satisfied, cross the bridge to meet Hop waiting fo you, Defeat him to go to the next city.

Hulbury

When we arrive, we won’t be able to challenge the Gym now because the Gym Leader isn’t there. We need to find the Gym Leader or Nessa at the lighthouse on the right side of town. After we meet her and talk a bit more, she’ll go back to the Gym and we can challenge now.

In the puzzle part of this gym we have to solve the pipe puzzle by pressing different colored keys. Which, if you’re lazy to solve by yourself, the answer will be as follows;

Zone 1 – Red/Yellow/Red
Zone 2 – Yellow/Red
Zone 3 – Yellow/Red/Blue (not the same yellow, it’s another one hiding inside.)

As for Nessa’s Pokemon, they are all water-type. with the following Pokemon

After the battle is over you will receive a TM36 Whirlpool as a reward and we will be told that Chairman Rose wants to meet us at a nearby restaurant. Next to the Pokemon Center to the right. Inside, we will find Chairman Rose and Sonia. After talking, we will receive a TM73 Retaliate as well.

– In the city market, there will be an NPC that we can exchange Minccino for Cottonee.

Galar Mine No.2

After talking at the restaurant, walk to the right of Hulbury town to find Galar Mine No.2, where we have to find the Fire Gym Leader. After coming in for a while, you will meet Bede, Defeat him and then keep walking. You will meet with Team Yell. Deafeat them before entering the innermost part of the cave where we will meet Kabu, the leader of the Fire Gym. After this, he will go back to the gym, we can challenge him.

Motostoke Outskirts

When we finish talking with Kabu, walk out of the cave, it will connect to Motostoke City, let us go back to the inn that we stayed in before the Gym Challenge Ceremony again. When you enter, you will meet Marnie and have a small duel. When defeat her, you will disperse to rest. In the morning, she will come to see you and give a few items.

After talking to Marnie, go and challenge Kabu to the stadium. The trials of this gym are simple mini-games. You have a contest to catch or fight with wild Pokémon. Which we have to score 5 points with the following conditions: if you defeat a wild Pokemon, you will get 1 point, and if you catch it, you will receive 2 points. After completing the conditions, you will meet Kabu, who will use Pokemon as follows;

After winning you will receive a TM38 Will-O-Wish as a reward, along with a Fire Uniform. After winning him, walk out and you’ll find Gym Leaders who have already won to bless us and Hop.

Wild Area

When walking out, you will meet Hop and Bede. They will excuse themselves to fight and will follow us later. Once your friends separate, we have to cross the bridge to the other side. After crossing the bridge, various Pokémon you found now will be very strong, we may stop by to catch Pokemon or level up first. When you’re ready, head to the Hammerlocke City Gate, which will be guarded. He will ask to see the badge before allowing us to enter. As you enter the city, you will meet Bede. He will tell you that he defeated Hop before entering the city.

Hammerlocke

Go into the stadium, you will find Chairman Rose inside. After talking, come out and go to the left side of the city, Leon will be waiting for us. Go to Route 6, on the way we will meet Raihan, he will allow us to see the treasure inside. When we’re at the treasure room, Go up the stairs to find Sonia looking at and analyzing the painting. What we see is a past event where two teenagers meet the Wishing Star and deal with the disaster using shields and swords. until finally both of them ascended to the throne.

After looking at the pictures and completing errands, leave the city and head straight to Route 6 to go to the next town.

Route 6

Walking out of town, we meet Hop, who looks discouraged from his previous defeats, and Team Yell who are causing trouble. Defeat them and continue the journey. Which this way is not too complicated, you can go directly to the next city, or stop by to fight with other trainers with catching Pokemon first In this Route, there are TM30 Steel Wing and TM15 Dig to collect.

Stow-on-Side

Going straight into the city, you will meet Hop. Come talk to us that he has the courage to fight again. After splitting up, you’ll meet Opal, who will talk a little more before going their separate ways. After talking, we can go and challenge the Gym. This Gym will be different depending on the region. If it’s the Pokemon Sword, you’ll meet the Fighting Gym, and if it’s the Pokemon Shield, you’ll meet the Ghost Gym.

In this version, you will meet Bea, her Pokemon will be as follows.

After winning, we get the TM42 Revenge along with the Gym set.

Gym Leader of Pokemon Shield

After winning, we get the TM77 Hex along with the Gym set.

After defeating the Gym Leader, Bede tries to destroy the Ancient Ruins to find the Wishing Star, so we have to stip him. At the end of the fight, Chairman Rose stops him and expresses his disappointment that Bede did this even though Bede do it for him to be happy.

After getting ready , walk to the right of Stow-on-Side to arrive at Glimwood Tangle Forest . Many of strange Pokemons await too.

Ballonlea

In this city, we can enter the Gym challenge right away. But we can explore to get TM first, there will be a grandmother in the house on the left side. If you play the Shield version, you will get TM42 Revenge or if you play Sword, you will get TM77 Hex .

The Gym battles are pretty simple, straightforward fights, only with questions for you to answer. If answered correctly, will receive a buff. Wrong answer will only debuff. The answer to the questions will be as follows:

First person – Do you know about Fairy type’s weakness? – Poision
Second Person – What was the previous Trainer’s name? – Annette
Third person – What do i eat for breakfash everty morning? – Omelets

After winning all the battles, you will fight Opal, which will have the same questions as follows.

No. 1 – Do you know my nickname? – The Wizard
No. 2 – What is my favorite color? – Purple
No. 3 – How old am I? – 16 Years old

For Opal Pokemon, they are as follows.

After winning you’ll get a set with TM87 Draining Kiss and she’ll ask if you want to follow her to Hammerlocke, you can answer the first choice to get there.

Hammerlocke

Back at town, in front of the stadium, we meet Bede. Opal meets Bede and talks a bit. Bede decides to follow Opal. After we finish talking, go to the right side of town. You will meet with Sonia while talking while you hear an explosion. So Sonia and Leon decided to check. As for you, go to the right to go out onto Route 7 to go to the next point.

Route 7-8

Circhester City

We can challenge with the Gym Leader. The puzzle of this Gym is to use trap detectors and dodge holes. If the detector rings, it means there is a hole nearby. Once we reach the innermost area, we will challenge the Gym Leader. Which each version is different, the Sword version will face Ground Gym and The Shield version will Ice Gym.

After finishing the battle, you will receive a set and a TM. The Pokemon Shield will receive the TM27 Icy Wind and the Pokemon Sword will receive the TM48 Rock Tomb.

After fighting with the Gym Leader, we walk out to meet Sonia. She says she will wait at the restaurant. Walk into the restaurant, you, Sonia and Hop will talk a little bit about the Pokemon legend. When you done talking and walks out, Hop will challenge you. Defeat him and your group will disperse.

– You can trade Vanillish and Sawk with the man who sells food in the town square.
– Draco Meteor can be learned with the pink-robed male NPC near the hot springs.

Route 9

To the lower right of Circhester town, there is a link to Route 9. We can follow the way until we meet with Team Yell Grunts, defeat them and you will receive a bicycle that can run on water as a thank you.

After upgrading the bike, we can use it to run on water. On the way, there will be a TM22 Rock Slide to collect as well, let us find a way to pass to the end to meet the shore where there is a building that is Spikemuth that we are looking for. The problem, however, is that Spikemuth’s door is closed so no challenger can enter. But while we were in trouble, Manie called us. Let us follow her to find another entrance. She will challenge you, so Defeat her first.

Spikemuth

After arriving, take a break at the Pokemon Center first. When you are ready, keep walking straight to the right. At all, you will meet with Marine. After talking, we will change clothes and go into the challenge as usual. For this Gym, there will be no chaotic puzzles, mostly it will be a straight collision. There will be a point where we encounter Mime which we cannot pass. Walk a little further and there will be Yell Grunts who will challenge you. Defeat them, there will be about two rounds like this. Route 9 Tunnel – Route 7

After defeating the Dark Gym Leader, go into the cave on the left. You’ll see people crowding around and wondering why Dynamax Pokemon has appeared around here. Luckily, Leon had already dealt with the problem. After we come out of the cave, we will meet Hop and talk about what happened. After talking, keep walk to the left to return to Hammerlocke.

Hammerlocke

When you reach the city, prepare yourself to be ready. Then you can enter the Gym Challenge. Before entering the Gym, you’ll find Sonia and Leon cheering you on at the front. In this Gym, battles are different from previous gyms in that you will have to fight in Double Battles where you will have to fight with Trainers in the Gym before you can fight Gym Leader Raihan. For Gym Leader Pokémon are as follows:

After winning, you will receive the TM99 Breaking Swipe to use and when you walk outside you will find Sonia, who has been appointed Professor officially. After this, if we are ready, go to the train station on the right side of the city to head to become a champion.

Advice

In the story after this phase, we will have to fight for quite a long time. It is recommended that 2-3 of your Pokemon should be leveled up to level 60+ or 70+. The fastest way to level up is to enter the Max Raid at the Wild Area and strike them all to bring Candy for leveling.

Route 10

To reach the competition venue, we must pass this Route. Which the way is not complicated, but the point to be careful is that the trainers in this area are quite strong far from the beginning of the game and the Pokemon that you find are quite high level too.

Wyndon

If you walk until you are satisfied, then you can walk into the city’s stadium which is at the back in the end. In the first round, you will have to compete with all Trainers who have received badges before going to fight the Gym Leaders and finally fighting the champions. In the first round, you’ll face Marnie and in the next round, you’ll face Hop. Once we defeat both of them, the Challenger Round will end.

After the race is over, go back to rest at the hotel while we made an appointment with Leon to go find something to eat. But Leon hasn’t returned yet. Piers comes in and says that he saw Leon at the Rose Tower and when we walk out, we meet Oleana, informing that Leon and Rose are discussing important things and not let you interrupt them, She’ll leave the keys with one of the staff members before leaving. Rose Tower

After getting the key, go to the train station to head to Leon and Rose. But while we go in, the staffs will block you, but Piers will come to help. Defeat them all and at the top, you’ll find Oleana blocking you, you need to defeat her too.

Finals

After returning to rest at the hotel, a staff member will come to pick us up, we can answer choice 1 to go to the stadium straight away. Or you can prepare first. In this round of competition, we will meet with various Gym Leaders. However, before the match starts we are challenged by Bede and you need to defeat him. At the end of the match, Bede will take over as the Gym Leader instead of Opal.

Finals (continued)

After the match against Bede, you’ll face two different Gym Leaders, which are slightly different in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Defeat them to meet Leon who was waiting. But just as the Finals is about to begin, we are interrupted by Rose’s incoming call. He will say that now there is a crisis and the stored energy has leaked out. Leon decides leaving to stop this problem. Hop and you will recall the story we talked to Sonia about having a Legendary Pokemon that could help. They decide to return to the Slumbering Weald to find the Legendary Pokemon.

Slumbering Weald

When you get home, you’ll meet with Sonia and have a little chat with her mom. When controlling the character, travel to the depths of the Slumbering Weald, at the end of the map where we will meet two dog Pokemon, appear and clear the fog before both disappear. Then walk inside to find legendary place. Here, Hop and you found the sword and shield that once appeared in the tale. Once collected, you’ll return to Hammerlocke to help Leon.

Hammerlocke

When reaching the city and entering the stadium, Oleana is in a state of flux and asks you to help Rose. After talking, go into the room on the right. We will meet Rose. He will say that now you can’t meet Leon because he has a mission to catch Eternatus, for which he has to give Eternatus a Wishing Star, awaken it to solve the Galar continent’s energy problem and he did everything to protect this continent.
